Holy shit, you guys
I wrote a story
Well, I finished the first draft of a story that still needs a lot of work
But still, I've been longing to write this frigging story for most of a year, and I finally did it
Unlike a lot of the other cool story ideas I've had in the past few years, this one lasted till I had two free days and no commitments and could write like a mofo.
I've been hunched over a computer since the storm passed through, and I begin to suspect my ass may have fused itself to the chair.
There, I've calmed down enough to use full stops.
Er. It will be a few days before this story is ready for any eyes but mine, but still.
Holy shit. My prose abilities haven't left me forever, which is what I had feared since like 2007. I can still write. (I couldn't talk--I'm too far gone to telephone--but I can still write.) It was such an effort I don't know when I'll write another one, but Smeagol did it before, he can do it again.
YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH!
Oh wait, I wrote a short-short story about an evil fungus back in February. That was fun but so short I didn't feel I'd made the leap. Now I do. (I should send that one out again.)
One of the things that was keeping me from writing was money anxiety. I can't sit down for two days straight and concentrate on a short story when I'm worried about money--after all, this is time that won't profit me in the short run, and I should be out working. (One more incentive to go find a better job. If I had a little more security I'd be able to do this more often.) But no one was going anywhere during the storm, and I had today off too, so:
WEEHOO!
Uh. So does anybody have time and inclination to beta-read a story (~8,000 words) and give me some feedback?
